Danny established and commanded the SAPS National Computer Crime Investigation Unit and went on to launch Cyanre, the Digital Forensic Lab in 2002 with the aim of establishing the company as a recognised and respected role-player in the IT forensic field. Subsequently Danny also launched LexTrado EDS in 2012 and CyberCom Africa in 2016, through which the group specialises in digital forensic investigations, data fraud trend analysis, incident response, eDiscovery services and litigation support services.
During 2021, Danny was appointed as an Associate Professor of Practice at NWU and holds a BCom Honours degree in Information Systems - Cyber Forensics (UCT-2013) (Cum Laude) and MCom – Forensic Accounting degree (NWU-2016) (Cum Laude).
Danny was inter-alia trained in computer forensics, cybercrime and hacking investigations by the FBI and the French Police and have attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centre (FLETC) in the USA and obtained his qualification as a SCERS (Seized Computer Evidence Recovery Specialist). He is also qualified as an EnCE (Encase Certified Examiner), CEDS (Certified eDiscovery Specialist) and CCBI (Certified Cryptocurrency & Blockchain Investigator).
Danny has served on many industry bodies such as:
- Chairperson of the Interpol African Working Party on Cyber Crime from 2002 until 2005 and represented Africa on the Interpol International Steering Committee on Cyber Crime.
- Chairperson of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Cyber Forensic Forum from 2011 to early 2016 and again since beginning of 2018.
- Vice-chairman of the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialist South Africa
- Member of the BRICS Expert Working Group on Cyber Security aimed at enhancing the coordination on Cybersecurity issues between the BRICS States.
Danny has been featured as expert on many media platforms and his articles can be found on multiple websites. As an avid mountain bike cyclist, Danny loves the outdoors and enjoys spending free time with his family.
